Step-by-Step Guide: Securing Life and Health Insurance with AIA

1. Assess Your Needs

  • Decide if you need health, life, or both types of insurance (AIA offers comprehensive plans covering hospitalization, accidents, critical illness, and life protection).
  • List your preferences: coverage amount, needing global protection, family included, English support, and wellness programs (like AIA Vitality).

2. Check AIA Eligibility

  • Most foreigners and expats with a valid Thai visa and local address are eligible to apply for AIA policies.
  • New applications usually accepted up to age 75; renewals may continue after that if there’s no coverage lapse.
  • Full disclosure of your medical history is required; AIA may review or exclude some pre-existing conditions.

3. Prepare Visa-Required Documentation

  • AIA has plans that meet the health insurance requirements for retirement, O-A, O-X, Elite, or LTR visas.
  • Ask your AIA agent (like me) to ensure you select a visa-compliant plan and get the correct insurance certificate for immigration.

4. Compare AIA Policy Types

  • AIA Health Happy/Health Happy Plus: comprehensive health coverage, wellness rewards, and cashless hospital access.
  • AIA Unit-Linked or Whole Life: combines protection with savings or investment growth.
  • Riders for critical illness, accident, and global coverage are available to customize your policy.

5. Application Process

  • Meet with your AIA agent, online or in person, for a consultation in English or Thai.
  • Complete a simple application form; your agent will help with every step. It is easier than before.
  • Some policies and ages require a medical check-up and health questionnaire.

6. Secure and Review Your Policy

  • Pay your premium by money transfer to AIA or pay by credit card to AIA.
  • Receive your official policy and e-certificate, usable for visa and hospital claims.
  • Your agent will walk you through reading your policy, understanding your coverage, exclusions, and how to file a claim or manage renewals.

How to Add Children or Family Members with AIA

  • Submit Required Documents:
Provide dependent information (passport/ID, birth certificate, health details) to your agent.
  • Pricing and Start Dates:
Premiums for children are often lower. Newborns can usually join after 15–30 days. Check for any waiting periods or special conditions.
  • Ongoing Support:
Your AIA agent will update your policy as your family grows and help manage claims or questions.

Why Apply with an AIA Agent?

  • English-speaking service, clear answers, tailored recommendations.
  • Hands-on assistance with paperwork, claims, and annual renewals.
  • Support with digital tools (AIA+ app), cashless hospital networks, and wellness programs for additional savings and benefits.

I am coming to Thailand on a retirement visa in January, 2026. I am 66 years old and have hypertension and thyroid medications for those conditions. I also take a mental health medication. I am interested in a health insurance policy for one year that includes ER, hospitalization in Bangkok, tests and outpatient visits. I am looking for something less than $500 USD per month.
If you have anything that would fit that requirement, please respond with any information. Thank you.
